Bio
A native of Milford, PA, Evie (Evelyn) Hupka began playing the horn at 9 years old. Prior to college, she studied primarily under David Martin, horn player and Music Education Lecturer at Rutgers University. She also spent two summers (2019 and 2020) participating in Eastman Community Music School’s Summer Classical Studies program, where she was able to study with Maura McCune Corvington. In 2019, she performed as part of a brass quintet in the Pennsylvania State Capitol building for Music In Our Schools Month. She has performed in numerous esteemed ensembles including PMEA 2020 All-State Wind Ensemble, Indiana University Philharmonic Orchestra, Indiana University Symphony Orchestra, and Indiana University Symphonic Band. In 2022, she sat for one semester as the principal horn of Indiana University Chamber Orchestra.
Currently, Evie is studying for her Bachelor of Music in Horn Performance at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, with Jeff Nelsen.
As someone passionate about sharing classical music with her community, Evie volunteered her time in high school with Kindred Spirits Arts Program, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing professional musicians to northeast Pennsylvania for performances and masterclasses. In 2022, she was a part of Classical Connections, an organization through which she taught bi-weekly masterclasses for middle school horn students in Brown County public schools, in Brown County, Indiana. Most recently, she spent her summer coaching chamber music, teaching music theory and other musical topics at Stokes Forest Music Camp.
When not playing horn, studying music theory, or teaching, Evie works in Indiana University’s William and Gayle Cook Music Library - one of the largest music collections in the United States - where she helps format recordings and digitize scores.
